Madikela Game Lodge

Madikela Game Lodge is situated in the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve, 32 km outside Vaalwater on the Melkrivier Road, and a comfortable two-hour, 15-minutes drive from Pretoria. Madikela, meaning "Place of the Setting Sun", is situated on a limestone plateau which was formed millions of years ago. This limestone, which rests on a granite base, has in time eroded, forming the most amazing rock formations.
The main garden area features a large swimming pool, 18-hole minigolf, a jungle gym, and games room. Accommodation comprises six secluded, thatched, self-catering cottages, each with its own game-viewing deck, a Jacuzzi splash pool, and enclosed barbecue boma.
We stayed at the lodge for a weekend
We left early and had a very relaxed drive. This was our first visit in the area. It is a beautiful area.
We stayed in a 2 sleeper cottage.
The cottage are scattered over the farm with each having full privacy
Our unit (Kingfisher) had a sitting area, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Outside was a boma, a wooden view deck and a splash pool under a thatched roof.
The lodge do not have a shop, so you need to be fully prepared and bring all your supplies. They did sell fire wood. We was not prepared and the friendly lady at reception helped us with ice until we could get our supplies the next day.
furniture may be a bit dated and look like it was bought on an auction, but it provided whet we
 needed.
Without a lot of light you can actually see the stars! The sunsets were fantastic!
You can do game drives with your own vehicle.
We had a wonderful weekend.

Dube Private Game Reserve

We visited Dube about 3 years ago.
We always wanted to go back as we enjoyed our stay.
So we went back over the weekend of 6 – 8 March 2015.
Dube is about 45 minutes from Pretoria and 70 minutes from Johannesburg.
They offer 130 camp cites.
This malaria-free destination is home to a wide variety of animals, 12 different species of wildlife ranging from: Zebra, Impala, Blue Wildebeest, Warthog, Eland, Kudu, Red Hartebeest, Waterbuck, Blesbuck, Bushpig, Duiker, Jackal, Steen buck, Giraffe and more than 200 species of birdlife have been recorded.
We camped with our off road caravan.
We left early to arrive mid-afternoon. The roads was surprisingly busier than we expected but we still had a relaxing drive.
We found a lovely spot under trees close to Ablution block 5.

Helpers were available to help us setup camp. This help a lot as camp setup was done no-time. They also assisted to help us to rent one of the braai’s.
You can walk and cycle around the park.

They feed the animals close to reception in the morning and late afternoon and you are welcome to watch.
You can also use your own vehicle to do game drives, but you need to keep to the roads.
The outdoor pools is available to cool down. An indoor heated pool and Jacuzzi’s are also available.
A shop can provide the basics, wood and ice.
They are busy to refurbish the ablution blocks any they really look good.
The only negative was that the showers did not have shelve or bench to put you cloths on. I hope that they will add this.
Overall we had a wonderful weekend and will go back.
Rates: see their website. The rate is for two adults and two kids. Max of 6 people per stand
They also have a number of chalets available
